Description

Subject: the new technology solution is to improve the traditional stoves, save fuels and protect the human health.

Currently, there are many households in the rural and mountainous areas to still use firewood, straw or other fuels available from nature for daily cooking.

Traditional firewood stove is the tripod stove/tile stove putted on the ground that is not flexible for cooking. Squat for cooking can cause backache due to muscle stretch and nuisance due to the food smell and the heat from stove. On the other hand, cookers who suddenly sit down or stand up during cooking can feel dizzy; it is very dangerous if they sit close to the stove. In addition, because of  stove is put down on the ground, the oxygen is not enough to provide for combusting of the firewood leading to a part of firewood unburnt causing waste of fuel and producing harmful smokes that affect the health, respiratory and cardiovascular system of users.

From the fact that, a team of the experienced doctors and engineers of the Research Centre for Community Health and Development have been researching and looking for solutions to protect and develop the community health. They has designed and produced the high-stand firewood stove to improve and overcome its drawbacks of the traditional stoves.

 The structure of the stove: the body of stove has 2 separate parts juxtaposed and they share a common bulkhead. Each stove has a mouth on the left or the right of the stove for putting the firewood in as well as smoke out. In the middle of the stove, there are two vents. The vents are blocked by the grate and the firewood only fires on the grate. The stove is put on a tripod that has appropriate height for a cooker. Below the vents are an ash damper and a tank of firewood. Above are a smoke cap and a flue.

 Dao Xuan Hoang who designed the high-stand firewood stove said:

- The high-stand firewood stove is solidly built from the available materials in local areas with a low cost and a high performance, saving firewood and protecting the human health. The stove is designed in accordance with the condition of rural and mountainous people.

Mrs Nguyen Thi B who is using the stove, said:

- The high-stand firewood stove has not only a simple structure but also a high performance. It helps to save the firewood from 40% to 60%. The traditional tripod stove consumes about 300 kg of firewood per month in comparison of 150 kg of firewood for the high-stand firewood stove.

The advantage of the high-stand firewood stove is less time for cooking, less smoke and no backache, no eye burning, or no toxic- inhaling than the traditional stoves....

In addition, the height of the high-stand firewood stove can be adjusted up or down to be suitable to the big size cookers and to be convenient for users.

Thank to the positive improvements comparing to traditional stoves, the high-stand firewood stove of the research center of community health and development has been allowed to register the patent certification. Dao Xuan Hoang hopes the high-stand firewood stove will be widely applied in many local areas across the country contributing to protection of environment and health of community.
