Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (IEEE) said Wi-Fi 802.22TM is impressive in both speed and distance. Each access point can broadcast Wi-Fi to 60 miles (approx. 100 km). It explores the space between two television bands, VHF and UHF, called "white spaces", to provide broadband on a large area.
This is what users have been waiting for years, however, the technology will initially be provided by large firms with the aim of building Wireless Regional Area Networks (WRAN) in remote, sparsely populated areas and in the developing world.
