Treatment technology to enhance the quality of Tong qua su lumber 4:19 PM,8/2/2016

Scientists from Vietnam National University of Forestry have successfully studied the treatment technology to enhance the quality of Tong qua su (Alnus nepalensis D.Don) lumber through effectuating the project “Research on treatment technology and equipment of Tong qua su lumber for production of building components of country houses” (code KC07.15/11-15).

This treatment technology is applied for the Tong qua su lumber aged 9-10, freshly logged (time from logging to treating less than 1 month), humidity above 30% and no woodeater. The treatment technology includes 3 major gradations: 1) Hydrothermal solution: the lumber is processed at 60-70oC during 6-10 hours and put together with storage treatment by chemical substance XM5, MAP 10%; 2) Mechanical solution: the lumber is pressed with the high pressure of 1.6 MPa at 140oC during 40 minutes; 3) Treatment of stabilizing dimension of the lumber at 100oC during 10 minutes. And the result of the inspection at Vietnam Institute of Building Materials and Vietnam Academy of Forest Sciences showed the Tong qua su lumber after treated is classified into group III if it meets requirements according to TCVN 1072-71 (was classified to group IV before treated), has goodresistanceto termites, Trametes corrugate and Daedalea quercina, andis suitable for production of building components of country houses.
