Center for Research and Technology Transfer (Ho Chi Minh city Department of Science and Technology) has succeeded in researching and fabricating soft pipes for making dykes using GM200, a material with mechanical, physical, and chemical properties suitable for designing soft pipes and life expectancy over 20 years, which is made from polyester fiber.

Soft pipe dykes have the structure as: the core is sand filled into 50-meter long and 1-meter diameter soft pipes, the pipes are piled into 3 layers. After filling sand, the dyke height is 1.8 meter. The dyke is covered by a 20-cm soil layer, so the horizontal cross-section is an isoscelestrapezium with the larger base of 6 m, smaller base of 1.5 m, and height of 2 m.

A 500 m dyke made of soft pipes has received a trial installation at Tan Thuan export processing zone (District 7, Ho Chi Minh City) and been highly appreciated by Tan Thuan Company Ltd.
