Bridges using ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) 2:02 PM,9/8/2016

Scientists from the Institute of Building Science Technology (IBST) have successfully studied, mastered and manufactured the bridge girders by prestressed ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC). The UHPC girders have much better tolerance of pressure than normal concrete girders (same size), this is significant in improving the quality and longevity of rural bridge projects.

The load test results showed the girders at the loading mode of 10 times higher than the distributed load of 1025 kg/m2, i.e. 3.5 times as much as the designed load did not appear any crack; the deflection rate compared to the length of the beam was about 1/290L, ensured design requirements. Especially, the cost of girders under UHPC technology made up only about 80% of the traditional ones’ cost. With the mastered technology, the IBST can design concrete components, structures as well as rural bridge girderswith the span of bridge from 12m to 25m.

The Department of Application and Development of Technology (Ministry of Science and Technology) has delivered and performed the product at Cau Dap Da (length of 18m), Ward 3, Vi Thanh City, Hau Giang Province and will expand the project at Ninh Binh, Vinh Long, Kien Giang provinces in order to speed up the progress of implementing  the project of building rural bridges for people of the Ministry of Transport.
