More than 120 officials in the telecommunications sector and delegates from countries in the Asia-Pacific region are gathering in Hanoi for the ongoing 11th APT Policy and Regulatory Forum (PRF). 1:59 PM,5/31/2012
The Forum meeting, jointly organised by the Asia Pacific Telecommunity (APT) and Vietnam Ministry of Information and Communications, is one of the most important regular events of APT, for regional countries to share their experience in policy making and implementation towards the development of telecommunication and information technology.

It also aims to support countries in developing an environment for the industry’s sustainable and safe development.

At the opening session, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Tran Duc Lai presented the project to make Vietnam a strong country in information technology and telecommunications, approved by the Prime Minister in 2010.

The project emphasised development and improvement of telecommunication and IT infrastructure for broadband as one of six major goals that need to be reached from now to 2020.

The project mapped out a strategic plan of action, especially the completion of a legal corridor to harness all resources, he said.

The deputy minister affirmed topics discussed at the event were useful for Vietnam in realising major policies and devising measures of implementation to meet the goal on universalisation of broadband infrastructure and services nationwide.

Participants will discuss a range of issues relating to strong development of broadband technology, propose solutions for broadband service technology and receive updates on regulatory information and techniques in regional countries.

The forum takes place from May 17-19 with participation of delegates from 22 APT member countries, an associate member country, and 18 unofficial members./.
