The Vietnamese products with the international stature
Timbox, a social network app has been well-known among Vietnamese young people, which allows people to connect each others and share voice conversation, share vivid images and messages. This is an app developed by a group of Vietnamese experts which attended the TechCrunch Disrupt – a forum that gathers talents who start up their business with technology products from all around the world.
According to CNC, the developer of Timbox app, Adeline Tang, Director of SingTel Group said TimBox is really a potential product in South East Asia, while having suggested that the two sides should discuss further about that for mutual cooperation and development.
Another expert, Alex Orloff, from Flurry, also noted that TimBox deserves to be a “Facebook killer” in Vietnam and South East Asia.
Tosy, a Vietnamese technology toy and robot manufacturer has made the name “Vietnam” better known in the world’s technology market when it brought DiscoRobo and SketRobo products to the 109th US International Toy Exhibition held in New York in February 2012 and got three awards there.
DiscoRobo, a robot which can dance with music, has caught the high attention from the US consumers. The product was recognized by Popular Science Magazine as the best product at the 2012 toy exhibition in New York.
As for SketRobo, the product got the “Space Age Award” and was chosen by Mashable as one of the 12 products which make users feel they want to their childhood.
A lot of difficulties ahead for technology start-up businessman
Analysts have every reason to believe to say that the movement of young people starting up business with technology products has been growing in Vietnam. However, they have also said that too many difficulties await the young people.
Hoang Anh Viet, Chief Information Officer of TIC (Becamex Technology Innovation Center) which has been supporting a lot of start-up groups in Vietnam, has noted that a lot of Vietnamese still have not prepared well in terms of knowledge and experiences when starting up business.
In many cases, they simply copy existing foreign business models, believing that if the models can develop in foreign countries, they would also succeed in Vietnam.
Some programmers believe that using some existing programming tools would be enough to create good enough products. In principle, one should take full advantage of the existing products, but they also need to optimize the systems in order to use the technologies in the most effective way and create high quality products.
The bright future
Professor Vo Van Toi, a well-known Tufts University’s Professor has returned to Vietnam, now working at the Biomedical Engineering Faculty of the HCM City National University, where he and his students are trying to create made-in-Vietnam high technology medical tools.
A lot of the products invented by the group, including the blood glucose meter integrated into smart phones, and the system allowing to keep watch over patients from a distance, have been recognized as having high quality, which are in no way inferior to the same products made by big groups in the world.
The initial achievements showed that Vietnam has the capability to create high technology products with high level of intelligence, competitive in the globe.
