Young doctors sent to disadvantaged districts 9:41 AM,3/1/2013
According to the Ministry, northern mountainous provinces of Ha Giang, Cao Bang, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, and Lai Chau are severely short of doctors.
Health Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Tien said the government and the sector will give special treatment like recruiting in state hospitals and more training to graduates to encourage them go to disadvantaged districts.
Young doctors who volunteer to work in difficult regions will enjoy all benefits as per the Prime Minister’s decision and they can return to big cities after three year working in these districts for men and two years for women.
Nguyen Ba Tinh, deputy chief of the Vietnam Association of Young Physicians, said 33 students have registered to participate in the project and the association expects to attract around 500 newly graduated doctors by 2016.
Phan Van Mai, Standing Secretary of the Central Executive Committee of Vietnam Communist Youth Union, said young doctors should develop volunteering spirits of the youth in society and country construction.
On the day, Than Thi Thu, head of City Propaganda and Education Commission, had a meeting with Professor Van Tan, a Labor Hero, former director of Binh Dan Hospital and Pharmacist Tran Van Nhieu, a Labor Hero and former director of Pharmaceutical Company Pharmedic.
In the meantime, People’s Committee of the central city of Da Nang gave the prizes to 20 medical staffs.
