Da Nang spent $2 million for city-wide WiFi coverage 2:13 PM,5/27/2013
Mr. Pham Kim Son, Director of the Da Nang Department of Information and Communication, said the WiFi system will operate in September, with nearly 400 transmitters (each device covers an area of 300 m in diameter), ensuring the access of 10,000 Internet users at the same time.
The WiFi installation is carried out in two stages, with a total investment of nearly $2 million.
The WiFi transmitters are installed on street lamp posts, tourist attractions, universities, state departments, etc.... with the 2.4 and 5.8 GHz bands.
Mr. Son said the project was conceived in 2003 when Da Nang placed the target of developing information technology but it is implemented slowly due to capital matters. The project will use the technology of 2012.
In Vietnam, Da Nang is the fourth location providing free WiFi coverage throughout the city, after Hoi An, Ha Long and Hue.
