A push for energy saving lighting products 2:33 PM,5/31/2012
In the category of household lighting, Dien Quang is a leading brand. Dien Quang supplies to the market MaxX super durable compact lamps, 45W, 55W, 85W and 110W energy saving high-capacity compact lamps, 5W - 28W small capacity lamps for household use. Dien Quang’s lamps save 80% of power consumption compared to incandescent light bulbs, have a variety of categories and many types of light suitable to many purposes of use. It is said that in 2011, Dien Quang Lamp Joint Stock Company will produce about 100 more kinds of energy saving lights for the domestic market.

Rang Dong also has residential energy efficiency lighting products which are consumers’ choice. Rang Dong’s products are 12V-DC Compact fluorescent bulbs using 12V DC voltage, which have high lighting efficiency, consume little power, generate little heat, have a lifespan of up to 6000 hours. Besides domestic brands are foreign brands entering the market with a wide range of energy saving lamps. In particular, Philips has many types of compact lamps with good quality and competitive prices. Philips’s products have entered the market under the 3 brands: Essential, Genie and Tornado.
Specialized energy saving lamps require high production technologies, so most of them are imported. This kind of lamp is often imported by private companies, such as Hung Tri Refrigeration Industry JSC with energy saving devices which reduce energy loss in lighting in cold storage. Green Light Company has the Silver Cap light amplification product which enhances the brightness for fluorescent lamps, compact lamps, LEDs, and other specialized lighting equipment... Silver Cap can be used in the lighting systems of workshops, mills and factories. Anh Minh Chau Trading Services Co., Ltd has warning signal lights using solar energy, park lights, garden lights, head lights, lawn lights, solar street lights, LED lamps, Led tube lights...

In recent years, demands for all kinds of civil and dedicated energy saving lights have increased; consumption rate has increased by about 40-50% per year. In particular, this rate has continued to rise after the price increase decision of electricity sector.

However, energy saving lighting products are suffering unfair competition from illegally imported products, counterfeit products, products of unknown origin which are 50% cheaper. These products have low quality and are potentially harmful to users. According to Ms Bui Phuong Thao, Director of Anh Minh Chau Company, a company specialized in trading dedicated energy saving lamps, most of the floating products have very poor quality as they are produced by obsolete technologies, cheap materials, brightness, power consumption and lifespan are not as publicized, but they can be sold due to low prices and because consumers do not understand the harm and inconvenience when using them.

The widespread appearance of counterfeit lamps, fake lamps, lamps of unknown origin is a serious problem for many businesses wishing to invest in expanding production of qualitative energy saving lamps, especially specialized lamps. Moreover, there have been no supporting policies and incentives for businesses engaged in producing high quality dedicated energy saving lamps, so businesses are still not eager to participate, because to produce standard LEDs requires a large investment with many rigorous technical processes.

In addition, import duties on high quality dedicated energy saving lights are still unreasonable. Ms. Thuy said, most LEDs must be imported, tax on Led bulbs is 0%, but other parts such as reflectors, lampshades... have the tax rate of 10 to 30%.

For energy saving lighting products, specialized lamps to be cheaper and to encourage all economic sectors to invest in production, many companies suggest that the Government should issue supporting policies for investment in manufacturing lighting equipment, especially dedicated qualitative energy saving lighting equipment; be more aggressive in blocking illegally imported goods; reduce import duties on components related to dedicated energy saving lamps, which cannot be domestically produced, in order to create a push for the energy saving products market.
