Melia Hanoi Hotel: Investing in energy-efficient operation of effective long-term revenue 11:14 AM,8/12/2014

Each year, Melia Hanoi hotel consumes about 850 TOE (tonnes of oil equivalent) of energy sources such as electricity, water, gas and diesel oil. In particular, electricity accounted for 80% of energy consumption, equivalent to more than 8 million kWh. Air-conditioning systems, hot water supply systems and lighting systems are 3 groups of devices consume the most energy at the rate used is 50.9%, respectively, 20.4% and 13.2 %.
With the aim of reducing energy costs to rise between 12-17% of revenue, Melia hotel and actively seek solutions to apply energy saving and efficiency.
Effective Energy Management
Melia hotel, the management has been introduced to high energy. In each area of energy consumption in the hotel are metered separately count, help technicians understand the actual figures of energy consumption per day. Since then, the timely detection of abnormal leakage energy for timely processing.
Every month, the hotel has a wrap up of the energy used. The department will report back on the use of energy resources to the Management Board to identify appropriate indicators to enhance energy efficiency.
In addition, the hotel also applies intelligent management system makes installation BMS schedule to switch systems in buildings and equipment remotely, easily adjusted according to demand actual energy use.
The hotel regularly scheduled maintenance for equipment such as toilet ventilation system for air-conditioning, exhaust residue boiler, hot water tank ... help devices operate efficiently and increase longevity.
The staff at the hotel regularly trained, training and dissemination of knowledge about energy saving. For energy management staff, the hotel is always to facilitate participation in training courses in this field by the Ministry of Industry and Trade or the Center for energy savings institutions.
Besides, the hotel proposed regulations on the implementation of power saving, compressed air and water for employees. For those violations, the hotel has strict sanctions. To encourage employees to actively implement energy savings, a portion of the cost of energy savings has been brought into the hotel for staff welfare fund.
Deployment of technical solutions
In addition to these management measures, Melia hotels positive application of technology to help save energy. For lighting, the Management Board has to replace the old bulbs with LED bulbs, energy saving compact ball. In the living room, halogen lamps are replaced by LED bulbs.
Do Minh Tuan's chief engineer, said the hotel, the hotel has moved to replace the locally conditioned with central air-conditioning systems with more energy efficient. Lobby area of the hotel was installed 2 layers of glass doors that open automatically to help prevent heat loss up the outside environment.
Oil boiler to heat water heat pump is replaced by heatpumb. The hotel is using hot water heating system with a capacity of 2 tons / hour. The hot water will be heated after being taken to the condenser to separate the steam and hot water. Hot water is transferred to the rooms, there is a bit of leverage to bring to the laundry area. Pump hot water system has been installed inverter hotels to save energy.
For elevators, hotel has installed sensors, ladder only when the user runs. When there is no person, scale transition of sleep mode to conserve power.
In addition to the power saving solution, howling hotel also important to use water. Hotel Melia has invested tuners water buoys are not American technology for safe water in the toilet saves water, instead of dropping bricks on the inside.
The investment cost for energy saving solutions at the approximately 1.6 billion. As a result, the hotel has saved more than 371 thousand kWh of electricity, equivalent to about 867 million. So just about 2 years is recovered property can be invested.
According to engineers. Do Minh Tuan clear whether the benefits of these activities bring energy savings, but not any hotels also invested: "With special activities, the hotel should consume more energy. One that I think many shortcomings unit encountered is the investment cost of equipment, technologies for energy saving activities rather large, causing long payback period. So, despite seeing many units effective but still shy of investing ".
Maintain and improve operational energy savings
To accomplish its objectives, avoid psychological "make the most" Melia Hotel has set out strict rules for maintaining energy-saving operation was carried out at the hotel. The department will conduct cross-checking activities of different energy saving.
Parallel to this, the hotel also plans to implement several energy saving measures in the future. Specifically, the hotel will continue to expand and apply the maximum cooling capacity of central air-conditioning, continue removing remaining areas using local air-conditioning.
The hotel will also conduct installation of inverter motors for central air conditioning systems such as chilled water pump and cooling water, AHU fan motor in the public area. Also, for the elevator system, the hotel is also conducting surveys, upgrading and clustering, help systems become more intelligent and more energy-efficient.
