The 14th National Congress of Cardiology kicked off on October 12 in the central city of Da Nang with the participation of more than 2,000 heart experts and surgeons worldwide.

At 3 day conference themed “Heart treatment in new era: From lab to community”, participants from the United States, France, Japan, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia delivered 1,000 reports and researches on hypertension, heart surgeries and how to improve nurses’ skills in taking care of heart patients as well as an exchange of information and experiences, updated technology on cardiology and heart surgery.

According to the World Health Organization’s estimation, around 17.5 million people die of heart diseases annually. More and more people are at the risk of the heart disease.

Meantime, the World Heart Federation said that by 2017, it is estimated that 20 percent of the country’s population get cardiovascular diseases and hypertension. Especially recently, high blood pressure is more common in younger people in the working age and should be taken as serious as their older counterparts which is considered an early sign of heart disease.

Currently, the rate of the Vietnamese population aged more than 25 suffering from hypertension is 25.1 percent; however, people still ignore the sign of the disease.

In the congress’ framework, another activities were organized for the community’s benefit including free heart and hypertension check-ups for 400 ethnic minorities in Da Nang City’s Hoa Bac Commune; a "Mass walk for a healthy cardiology community"; a talk with leading cardiologists to help raising people’s understanding of heart disease and prevention and online heart surgery which the participation of internationally well-known experts.

The Viet Nam's Cardiology Association (VCA) gave prizes to young researchers in the filed during event.

The congress is scheduled to end on October 14.
