Use E5: Reduce dependence on fossil fuel resources are dwindling
3:41 CH,22/10/2014

According to the roadmap of the Government, from 12/01/2014, bio-fuel E5 (E5) to be sold in 7 provinces and cities including Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City. To 01.12.2015, E5 will be widely available across the country. Although there exist psychological fears of consumers when choosing to use biodiesel instead of traditional gasoline. But over the findings, scientists have confirmed, using biodiesel not only save but also helps the engine operate stable, more durable than traditional gasoline.

Clean Fuels popular around the world

Currently biofuels are widely used with over 60 countries and territories on all continents. For the sake of the environment in which many countries although not producing biofuels but still forced to use.

In Brazil, E5 blending is done in the 1970s, required rates increased 22% in 1993, and ranged from 20-25% according to Brazilian law enacted in 2003 mandated policy vehicles to use biofuel, ethanol fixed rates lower than traditional gasoline.

The United States also mandatory provisions and tax incentives for the use of fuel and oxygen, including ethanol. E10 gasoline has been widely used in the United States since the late 1970s the European Region, EC Directive 2003/30 dated May 5/2003 requires Member States to achieve a minimum rate for fuel biological and other renewable fuels in the market of each country. On the basis of EC Directive 2003/30, 2010, Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, UK, France and Spain have set the target rate of 5-7%, use of renewable fuels in delivery information.

In Southeast Asia, in 2005, the Malaysian government has launched biofuel policies ambitious, including mandatory use of biodiesel B5. Thailand has ratified a long-term program of the Government (2008-2022) to replace 20% of the total national energy consumption by renewable energy by 2022 and make the law mandatory use of E10 in gasoline in 2012.

Philippines through the Biofuels Act of 9367 takes effect from the date 12/7/2007, mandatory use of biofuels. Within 2 years after the law takes effect, denatured ethanol percentage of at least 5% of the total demand for gasoline is sold and distributed at every oil company in the nation. Over the next four years, the Commission National Biofuels determine the feasibility and recommend to the Department of Energy to challenge mandatory minimum of 10% by volume ethanol.

In addition, in the world, many countries do not call E5 bio gasoline by only 5% of the alcohol is mixed with gasoline, the additive that is just like so many other additives into the mix. Therefore, from E5 to E10 petrol is still considered conventional gasoline, perfectly suited for use with existing engines without conversion. Also this is not the product affects the environment, need to boost consumption.

Benefits to consumers and society

In Vietnam, since 2009, the Ministry of Science and Technology issued a national technical regulation on gasoline and biofuel standards TCVN 8063: 2009 on E5. So, when E5 bio gasoline in accordance with the standards means absolutely guaranteed to be circulated in the market and safe to use.

Mr. Nguyen Sinh Khang, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Oil and Gas Group said, according to Decision No. 53/2012 / QD-TTg of the Prime Minister, from the date of 12.01.2014, E5 will be produced to used for road motor vehicles in 7 localities of Hanoi, HCMC. Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong, Da Nang, Can Tho, Quang Ngai, Ba Ria-Vung Tau and will officially widely used across the country from 12.01.2015. Program to ensure energy security goals, improve the air environment and contribute to sustainable sources of income for the agricultural sector; while implementing the Government's commitment to international greenhouse gas emissions.

According to Mr. Nguyen Sinh Khang, biofuel-friendly environment, boosting consumption will contribute to enhancing the income of farmers, reduce dependence on fossil fuel resources are dwindling. The E5 used to help improve engine performance, emissions, benefits to consumers and society. E5 process uses very convenient, no need to adjust the engine when switching between E5 fuel and conventional gasoline.

Dr. Pham Huu Tuyen, Head of Laboratory internal combustion engine (Engineering Institute motivation - Hanoi University of Technology) share in the project development of biofuels by 2015, with a vision to 2025 by the Prime Minister for approval to develop biofuels has stated: biofuels are a new form of energy, renewable, need to be developed to partially replace traditional fossil fuels, as well as contribute to ensuring energy security and environmental protection, in line with the general trend of development in the world. Biofuel development will also enhance the value of agricultural products which is the strength of Vietnam.

According to the results of laboratory studies of the internal combustion engine, the engine uses very little E5 generate CO and HC emissions, gasoline less than the A92 and A95 as common as 20%. Therefore, E5 petrol can be considered environmentally friendly.

Besides the significant reduction of CO and HC components, acceleration of the car is also better for the E5. As we already know, and gases CO is a toxic gas, CO emissions are very high in motorcycle engines. Combustion engine using gasoline E5 is improved by the mixture between air and fuel more evenly due to possible evaporation of E5.

In addition, the presence of oxygen in gasoline E5 component factors helped fuel the fire in hypoxic conditions (fire with a lighter mixture than gasoline engines use cases of the use of fuel RON92 petrol) and burn out. This is the basis of creating less toxic gases CO and HC. In addition, the new vehicles are now parts exhaust treatment, combined with the use of E5 toxic gases released to the environment is greatly reduced.

Enough supply to meet national

To ensure blended biodiesel sources increase, preparing for the 2016 schedule will offer E10 biofuel in widespread use throughout the country, from the end of 2007, the government approved the "Project development biofuel development to 2015 and vision to 2025 ", with the overall goal to develop biofuels to partially replace fossil fuels contribute to ensuring energy security, environmental protection.

Under the scheme, in 2011-2015, Vietnam will produce approximately 150 thousand tonnes of biofuels to meet the 0.1% national petroleum demand. 2025 will produce about 1.8 million tonnes of biofuels to meet 5% of gasoline demand. With such strategies, the production of biofuels, namely ethanol to mix with gasoline to biofuel will be convenient.

As reported by the Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Industry and Trade, the implementation of the scheme developed by the School of biofuels Prime Minister for approval, Petro Vietnam and some other investors have invested build 03 ethanol plants produce fuels from cassava raw material cassava in three major areas, namely: factory production of bioethanol in Tam Nong district, Phu Tho province with a design capacity of 100 million liters of ethanol fuel / year; Plant of JSC Central biofuel at Binh Son, Quang Ngai Province (Dung Quat Industrial Zone) with a design capacity of 100 million liters of ethanol / year; Company Limited Orient Biofuels (OBF) invested factory fuel ethanol in Bu Dang District, Binh Phuoc Province with a design capacity of 100 million liters of ethanol / year.

As of early 2013 there were 6 factories producing biofuels in operation with total production capacity of ethanol to gasoline E5 blending of businesses across the country is 535 million liters / year (417,000 tonnes ). In case the enterprise works with 65% of design capacity is 271,000 tons of production still reached 5.4 million tons enough to challenge E5.

Along with the first plant is being constructed to provide capabilities for mixing ethanol E5 and E10 in 2014 and the next year the route is entirely feasible. With existing capacity, fully ethanol plants capable of replacing 100% and over the entire gasoline consumption demand throughout the country in 2015.
