Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has approved adding eight national hi-tech agriculture parks to the master zoning plan for this sector until 2020 with a vision toward 2030.

Earlier, the Government leader okayed establishment of a hi-tech agricultural park in the Mekong Delta province of Hau Giang and another in the central province of Phu Yen.

The new eight parks in the master zoning plan will be located in the northern provinces of Thai Nguyen and Quang Ninh, the central provinces of Thanh Hoa and Khanh Hoa, the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong, and three southern localities – Binh Duong, HCMC and Can Tho.

The 10 high-tech agri-parks will be put into operation by 2030. The objective is to develop a large-scale and high-productivity agriculture sector for the country, ensure national food security and boost farm exports.

Ministries and agencies have been told to work out plans to develop such parks in other parts of the country. 

There will be concentrated high-tech farming areas for coffee production in the Central Highlands, northwestern and north-central regions; tea production in Thai Nguyen and Lam Dong provinces; and thanh long (dragon fruit) in the south-central province of Binh Thuan.

Advanced technologies will be applied to produce vegetables in Lao Cai, Hanoi, Haiphong, HCMC and Lam Dong; flowers in the same localities except Haiphong and fruits in the southeastern and Mekong Delta regions. 

Dairy farming will be developed in Son La, Hanoi, Nghe An and Lam Dong, pig farming in the Red River Delta and southeastern regions; and poultry farming are in the Red River Delta, northeastern, north-central and Mekong Delta localities.

The Red River Delta and north-central regions and coastal provinces in the south-central, southeastern and Mekong Delta regions will be home to shrimp farms.

In reality, local governments have decided to establish high-tech parks for agriculture and some of them have been in place over the past years.
