Minister Nguyễn Quân met with the President of Viet Nam Education Foundation

On June 01, 2015, in the office of Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), Minister Nguyễn Quân had a meeting and working session with Viet Nam Education Foundation (VEF), in the visit to Viet Nam paid by VEF’s high-ranking mission led by Ms. Nguyễn Anh Lan, President of the Management Board in order to strengthen cooperative relations between MOST and VEF for the coming time.

In the working session, the two parties discussed about cooperation between VEF and MOST on the proposal on training and fostering S&T human resources inside and outside the country for the 2016 – 2020 period. At the same time, Ms. Nguyễn Anh Lan has provided updated information of VEF’s activities and events to be organized for the coming time to the Minister and representatives of some agencies in the Ministry.

For the coming time, VEF would send a mission to Viet Nam to interview learners in July and early August and VEF’s annual conference will be organized in October 2015 in Washington DC, Ms. Anh Lan said.

In addition, VEF’s President emphasized VEF’s tasks to visit Viet Nam this time was together with professors and researchers to revive teaching situation of universities in Viet Nam. This is a research project VEF started to implement 10 years ago and so far the project has achieved promising results. Among that, by end of 2014, VEF had updated report on Viet Nam’s post-education with observations about tertiary education in agriculture science; construction techniques; computer science; electricity – electronics – telecommunications; environmental science; physics and transportation in some Vietnam’s universities.

Ms. Nguyễn Anh Lan affirmed to consistently support Viet Nam’s universities to develop to the international level in terms of tertiary teaching quality. Ms. Lan also shared that among its long-term overall objectives, Việt Nam would strive for bringing in domestic tertiary education at both graduate and post-graduate level to the international level. Currently, Việt Nam’s government has support to send many students to foreign countries for training with hopes that they would return and provide training for next generations. Despite of many positive changes, there have been may challenges. Policies would encourage people of good education to return to Việt Nam and participate in teaching and carrying out researches in domestic universities. The group of new lecturers and working people can take efforts together to bring Viet Nam’s education to the international level.

Minister Nguyễn Quân affirmed to continues support to research projects carried out by university lecturers, provide direct support to strong research groups, use MOST’s financial resources to sponsor Viet Nam’s young talented scientists to study and do research in the US for the coming time.

In addition, the Minister also expressed his desires that VEF’s program would be carried out. The Minister said that in case of no financial assistance from the US’ government as before, we would like to cooperate with VEF in a new form which is the cooperation training for S&T exports instead of training for students and lecturers of universities to get master and doctor degrees and inviting the US’s scholars to Viet Nam for teaching …

Concluding the working session, the two parties agreed to continue their comprehensive cooperation and provide mutual support during the development of VEF’s education and science – technology projects.
