Japan biggest IT investor in Hanoi

Japan has become the largest IT investor in Hanoi, with nine new IT projects registered for licensing in the first half of year, accounting for 39.1 per cent of the 23 new IT projects in the capital, according to the Hanoi Department of Information and Communications. South Korea followed with three projects, accounting about 13 per cent.

The Department also announced that by the end of the first half of this year Hanoi had actually issued business licenses to a total of 85 foreign-invested enterprises in the IT sector worth $64 million, an increase of 93.1 per cent year-on-year.

The Hanoi People’s Committee prepared plans for the development of the IT industry in the city in 2015. The Department has also cooperated with related agencies to make plans for IT development in the 2016-2020 period.

In the first half the Department completed evaluating a project for a software park, with Hanel as the investor. It also consulted with the people’s committee on bolstering IT exports in Hanoi.

The total of export turnover of electronics, computer devices and components from Hanoi was $853 million, the capital’s General Statistic Office said. Export turnover from electronics was $236 million, an increase of 84.37 per cent year-on-year, while computer devices and components were $617 million, rising 6.93 per cent.
