New Internet policy group formed in the Asia Pacific

hese companies formed the Asia Internet Coalition (AIC) to promote the understanding and resolution of Internet policy issues in the Asia Pacific. The Asia Internet Coalition (AIC) was launched on 14 June, 2011 at the eBay offices in Wan Chai, Hong Kong.

Led by Dr. John Ure, director of the Telecommunications Research Project (TRP) at Hong Kong University, this coalition is the first in Hong Kong, and in Asia, to bring together five technology giants to the open Internet.

The AIC will focus on seeking engagement with policy makers, industry and users to promote the aims of the coalition.

Benefit Asia Pacific economy

The AIC will be in regular consultation with the government and industry to facilitate the growth of the Internet that has revolutionised the way businesses in the Asia Pacific region interact with their users. According to a release, the coalition will also address major policy issues that arise from such rapid growth.

The AIC strongly believes that an open Internet will benefit entire economies, and thus seeks to continue promoting policies that encourage the unhindered development of the Internet.
