Viet Nam joined 13 other countries in addressing cyber security incidence responses at the 2015 ASEAN Computer Emergency Response Team Incident Drills (ACID) last Wednesday.

The drill is an annual event organised by information security agencies, especially computer emergency response teams from many countries.
Besides Viet Nam, 13 other countries also took part in the rehearsal including Australia, Japan, China, India, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and Myanmar.
Countries focused on responding to cyber attacks in order to enhance competence in dealing with real situations and particular skills in implementing investigation, analysis and incident response.
In Viet Nam, the drill was deployed in three cities, including Ha Noi, Da Nang and HCM City, with assistance from the information and technology (IT) sector from the central offices, departments of information and communications of 40 cities and provinces, and 24 ministries and ministerial-level agencies.
There were also groups and corporations providing telecommunications, information, technology and information security services such as MobiFone, VNPT, Viettel, FPT and the Bach Khoa Software and Internet Security Solution Centre, Viet Nam Information Security Association and Viet Nam Association for Information Processing.
Viet Nam Computer Emergency Response Team (VNCERT) was in charge of regulating the drills in the three cities.
The drill was not only an opportunity for technicians to practise with international-level computer technology, but also an activity to raise awareness on information safety in offices, enterprises and the community, said Nguyen Thanh Hung, deputy minister of information and communications.
Because there is no geographic limitation when it comes to cyber attacks, international co-operation in responding to incidents and protecting information has been discussed during talks at many levels.
In addition, the ASEAN Economic Community will be established on December 31, during which time many joint activities will be organised, including ACID.
The minister said all countries must join hands to protect their cyber safety, for the benefit of the region and Viet Nam.
VNCERT detected more than three million IP addresses, which were infected and controlled by host computers outside of Viet Nam.
The centre also found 18,085 infected websites that had spread malware on the Internet, including 88 state agency websites.
In addition, there were 5,400 phishing sites and 7,400 websites attacked for defacement.
VNCERT has taken part in many information safety drills since the beginning of this year, including drills between ASEAN and Japan and countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
