Description:

By supporting of the Industrial Promotion Centre and Industrial Development Consultants (Department of Industry and Trade), many farms in Binh Phuoc province has applied an optimal method of waste treatment in cattle feeding by using biogas. The biogas is used in running electricity generator in order to improve  production efficiency and minimize the negative impacts to the environment.

Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan has moved to Binh Phuoc from Ho chi Minh city since 2009. Here he open a  pig farm to develop family’s economy. The farm has a size of 750 pigs and located at Suoi Da village, Tan Hung commune (Dong Phu). Some years ago, wastes from the farm are burried in a hole under the ground. Manures and waste water from the pig farms are extruded too much, causing unpleasant odors, affect the health of the farmers living around and the environment.

The disposal of animal waste in contravention of regulations has hindered operations of the farm, while the price of electricity and fuels (gasoline and oil) is not stable cause the increasing of feeding cost. Therefore he has no benefit from first two years doing business and sometime think about moving to another business.

By supporting of the Industrial Promotion Centre and Industrial Development Consultants (Department of Industry and Trade) and their consultancy, as well as directly visit to the farms using biogas to run generators, on March 2015, Mrs. Tuan has invested in biogas systems and power generators with a total value of over 300 million dongs. In particular, the Centre granted 100 million dongs to purchase machinery, equipments, and technical advisory supports, technology consultancy.

His farm began using biogas generators running from April 2015. Although being a new trial but this model has shown economic efficiency has significantly increased. Before that he used gasoline and oil generators because of no electricity in the farm. According to Tuan’s calculation, applying new technology would save 2 million dong per month for oil, gasoline, gas that using for household and livestock. The farms is also no longer economize on electricity as before, so the  pigs’ve just imported can avoid the negative impacts from weather and make them fast-growing, less sick.

When using biogas systems to run generator, Mr.Tuan also save the investment cost of environmental treatment and minimize the negative impacts on human health. He said: Previously, all of the wastes contained in the pits next to the farm cause bad effects on the labors, now two pools of biogas be fully covered up that stink could not emitted into the environment. After processing, waste water has been irrigated for plants by the farmers weekly. Using biogas as a kind of fuel for the generators really becomes a good solution towards sustainable production for farmers.

Assistance project of applying machinery and equipments using biogas to run generators at Mr.Tuan’s farm by Industrial Promotion Centre and Industrial Development Consultants had been commissioned on 7th May. The investment and installation of a 10 kw generator using biogas was completed and put into use in order to utilize the biogas from 500 pig’s wastes, provide electricity for feeding farm and household, reduce production costs and environmental pollution.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tuong, deputy director of the Centre, said: there is few remote areas do not have electricity so the livestock sector could’nt expand and operate in larger scale comply with the technical progress. If the power is cut off,  feeding activities would be negative impacted, causing risk of death for the piglets. Therefore, using biogas to run generators in the farms will deal with the problems of using power requirements and help ranchers initiative in power, minimize the risks. Currently the Centre is encouraging ranchers, large-scale livestock producers to apply this technology in the aim of approaching to the sustainable development for livestock sector.
