France will assist Vietnam in improving air quality in the capital Hanoi and dealing with the impacts of climate change under two agreements signed between the two countries on April 8.

Under the first agreement, the Hanoi government will establish a partnership with the French Embassy to promote cooperation in sustainable urban development, especially in improving the capital city’s air quality.

The two sides will co-operate and share experience in deploying a network of sensors and monitoring stations, analysing air quality, using analysed data to work out measures aimed at improving the living environment, among others.

French Ambassador to Vietnam Jean Noel Poirier said Hanoi needs to have equipment to gauge and analyse air quality to allow its citizens to have real-time information on air quality, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

With the second agreement, the French automaker Renault will provide 100 electric cars of the Fluence family to the Vietnamese taxi group Mai Linh, which is planning to establish a fleet of electric cars in major cities to reduce polluting emissions.

The cars will arrive in Vietnam in June this year.
