To celebrate the 40th year of the founding of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), the 4th Asia-Pacific Chemical and Biological Microfluidics Conference (APCBM) and the International Workshop on Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (IWNN) took place in Da Nang City between November 2-4, 2015, organised by the Graduate University of Science and Technology (GUST) in collaboration of the Institute of Materials Science.

Attending the IWNN – APCBM 2015 were nearly 200 scientists, science and technology managers, entrepreneurs in terms of materials, liquid mechanics, information and technology, chemistry, biology who came from 15 countries, including Russia, the US, France, Singapore, Japan, Spain, the Republic of Korea, China, Germany, United Kingdom, Sweden, the Netherlands, South Africa, Thailand and Vietnam, and Taiwan (China).

The 3-day conference included the plenary session and 8 sessions in subjects. Some 50 reports were presented at the sessions and over 100 reports were published on posters of the conference. The Council of Presidents of the conference included:

• Prof. Academic Dang Vu Minh – President of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations

• Dang Huy Dong – Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment

• Prof. Dr.Sc. Duong Ngoc Hai – GUST Director and VAST Vice President

• Prof. Dr. Dong – Pyo Kim – the University of Pohang Science and Technology, the Republic of Korea

• Prof. Dr. Holger Loewe – the University of Mainz, Germany

The sessions also saw the participation of the Asia Nano Forum (ANF), bringing the title “The development of Nano”, discussing the applications in energy, water, together with working out policies and strategies for the development of Nano.

Highly qualified reports will be chosen to be posted on Journal of Electronic Materials (IF 2014 = 1.798) or Green Processing and Synthesis (IF 2014 = 1.1) in the near future.

APCBM is held every two years. Previous meetings were organised in Hong Kong in 2009, Nanning (China) in 2011 and Seoul (RoK) in 2013. This year, the conference was combined with the IWNN, covering more scientific and technological subjects relating to Nano technology such as advanced Nano material, spintronics, alternative energy and functional polymer.
