Lao Deputy Minister of Energy and Mining Viraphong Viravong has expressed the wish to boost co-operation with major Vietnamese firms, especially those working in electricity and power transmission.

Meeting Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung in Hanoi on July 21, Viravong said leaders of the Lao Party, State and government are very keen on energy co-operation, particularly in the areas of power generation and transmission.

He said co-operation agreements already signed by the two countries will be accelerated.

Deputy PM Dung, for his part, suggested reviewing projects and surveying each side’s potential, saying that it is time for the two sides to embark on joint energy projects.

The two countries should explore the possibility of connecting power grids so that Laos could potentially sell electricity to Vietnam, he suggested.

The host also took the occasion to request intensifying all-around collaboration, especially in trade and investment to match bilateral friendship and meet the expectations of the two countries’ leaders and peoples.
