The TCVN ISO 50001:2012 greenhouse gas emission and environmental impact management system has been applied for three years, but only 16 businesses across the country has so far adopted it.

The system was prepared based on the international ISO 50001:2011 system with the intention of implementing energy programs in a more simple and effective manner without the need for intensive technological investment. It was designed to suit varied conditions. The system has been widely adopted by global companies.

Speaking at a recent workshop to find solution to improve industrial energy efficiency, TUV Nord Vietnam CEO Le Si Trung said nearly 7,000 companies across the world have adopted the international ISO 50001:2011 system, including 16 Vietnamese companies.

The Law on Economical and Efficient Use of Energy was enacted in 2010 without any articles on compulsory application of the TCVN ISO 50001:2012 greenhouse gas emission and environmental impact management system by domestic companies. Moreover, the application of this requires computerized monitoring of used energies, which was financially impossible for domestic companies at that time. Some businesses even chose a more simple domestic system without considering its real efficiency Le Si Trung said.

The application of the TCVN ISO 50001:2012 greenhouse gas emission and environmental impact management system will help reduce corporate energy costs while raising worker awareness of energy effective use.

It is necessary to encourage domestic companies to adopt the TCVN ISO 50001:2012 greenhouse gas emission and environmental impact management system via legal tools and incentives and especially the participation of state management agencies, Le Si Trung said.
