Natural Disaster ATLAS

Scientists from the Institute of Geology, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology have released the Vietnam natural disaster Atlas, reflecting 12 forms of dangerous natural disasters in our country with the ratio of 1: 3,000,000 through the implementation of national project “Research on adding on, developing and publishing the map of natural catastrophes of the mainland of Vietnam based on the research results from 2000 to present” (code KC.08.28/11-15).

The layout of the Atlas is divided into three parts: Part 1: the presentation of the article and a map overview, the introduction to natural conditions, natural resources, Vietnam’s population and socio-economic issues related to the disaster with 10 maps. Part 2: the maps of natural disasters that commonly occur in Vietnam (including the basic map and the specialized map), each map contains summary presentations and diagrams, photos, graphs… Part 3: the general map warning the risk of disasters and the specific map summarizing the risk of disasters in Vietnam; the principles of prevention and lessening disasters. The content of the natural disaster Atlas has also been built under electronic format, released on the website of the Institute of Geology, allowing people of interest to easily access.
