Scientists from Center of Animal Experiments and Domestic Animal Conservation (National Institute of Animal Sciences) have selected and successfully created a new chicken variety named VBT1 which remedies some weaknesses of other colored chicken varieties that are being fed as reproductive base in Vietnam.

Characteristics of VBT1 chicken: easy to feed, high equality, good disease resistance, egg yield at 175-180 eggs/72-week-old hen (10-12% higher than that of Luong Phuong chicken), low food consumption (2.4-2.5kg per 10 eggs), hatchability rate of type 1 chicken > 80%. The slaughter results show low ratio of abdominal fat of 12-week VBT1 (1.88%) while this ratio of Luong Phuong chicken is 3.27%. Therefore, VBT1’s ability of high temperature resistance is better than other colored chicken varieties. Especially in real feeding condition, VBT1 chicken for reproductive purpose has excellent ability of high temperature resistance, and its constitution is still normal when coop temperature reaches 36-37oC, while there’s sign of death for heat and low reproductivity ratio in other varieties, which results in economy damage. When used as base for reproductivity, cross-bred chicken of VBT1 and tradition chicken such as Ri, Mia, Ho, Dong Tao, Choi… has beautiful feather and high meat quality, and satisfies market demand.
