Vinasat-2 producer Lockheed Martin is testing and calibrating the satellite. The work is expected to be completed in June.

In July, Lockheed Martin will officially hand over Vinasat-2 to Vietnam Telecom International Co. (VTI), a subsidiary of VNPT. Thereafter, Que Duong Satellite Control Station in Hanoi will take charge of controlling Vinasat-2.

Speaking on the Government web portal chinhphu.vn, Hoang Phuc Thang, head of Que Duong station, said a technical staff of 28 people will join the control of both Vinasat-1 and Vinasat-2.

Thus far, Lockheed Martin has almost finished training the staff to control the satellite in the south. The final training courses will wrap up this June.

Under the bilateral deal, after Vinasat-2 is handed over, Lockheed Martin will send its specialists over to assist Vietnamese engineers at Que Duong Satellite Control Station in three months.

Apart from the control station in Que Duong, there is a backup station in Binh Duong. Under certain circumstances, the satellite control stations worldwide of Lockheed Martin will also lend support, and thus satellite control will be ensured in all cases.

According to VTI, promotion programs have been launched to seek potential customers for Vinasat-2. VTI is looking for corporate clients active in various fields such as oil and gas, banking, and financial.

The service provider also target customers in remote areas and in foreign markets such as Cambodia and Laos.

VNPT expects to recover investment capital in Vinasat-2 in ten years, while the lifespan of the satellite is 15 years.
