To create quality, environmentally friendly products and enhance productivity, the Van Dien Fused Magnesium Phosphate Fertilizer Joint Stock Company (VADFCO) has paid great attention to investment in technology and created a good work environment.

VADFCO General Director Hoang Van Tai said, “Our company has applied suitable technological solutions to take back 100 percent of solid waste for use as materials for fertilizer production. These solutions have helped us reduce material consumption by 21.8 percent annually and minimize environmental pollution. In addition, VADFCO has built and put into operation an ISO 9001:2008 system to ensure effective quality management according to international standards.”

To produce 300,000 tonnes of phosphate fertilizer annually, the company has to use 14-15 million cu.m of water and discard 12-13 million cu.m of wastewater per year. Following its efforts to improve existing facilities and build new water treatment and circulation systems, VADFCO has been able to treat 100 percent of wastewater for reuse in production, saving 12-13 million cu.m of water annually. These efforts have also allowed the company to save more than five million kWh of electricity and take back about 3,500 tonnes of semi-finished products per year, and the company does not have to pay environmental protection fees, so it can save about VND10 billion annually. Notably, VADFCO has successfully used pressed rice husk instead of coal in drying phosphate and NPK fertilizers, saving VND5 billion per year. These solutions have helped the company reduce production costs and enhance the competitiveness of its products.

Along with improving product quality through technological innovation, VADFCO has created a good work environment to encourage its employees to work hard and feel closely associated with the company, in an effort to increase productivity. The company has purchased necessary equipment and taken suitable measures to reduce noise, prevent dust, poison gas, fire and explosion, and protect workers against sunlight. VADFCO’s trade union has coordinated with company divisions to take care of worker health. Apart from two major meals per day, in 2015, the company spent VND3.89 billion to prepare mid-shift snacks for workers and provided them with extra-allowances totaling VND1.26 billion for working in a toxic environment. The company also allows its female workers to take post-natal maternity leave to take care of their babies in accordance with existing regulations.

Along with launching role-model movements to encourage its employees to bring into play their creativity at work, the company has purchased new equipment to improve working conditions. Technical initiatives have helped VADFCO save tens of billions of dong annually and create a better work environment.

“To achieve its 2016 annual revenue and pretax profit targets of VND987.69 billion and VND80 billion, the company will continue to promote technical initiatives to further increase productivity and reduce production costs in order to enhance its market competitiveness,” General Director Tai said.
