Vietnam’s Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics (VIASM) and France’s Institute of Research for Development (IRD) have signed a science and technology co-operation agreement.

The deal came within the framework of French President François Hollande’s state visit to Vietnam from September 5-7.

The agreement lays out a framework for dialogue, information exchanges and the promotion and supervision of research activities.

Under the agreement, the two sides will establish international co-operative units or research labs, as well as promoting exchanges of research results and technology transfers.

The two institutes will also implement activities aimed at training and building the capacity of researchers and students and recommending candidates for an international doctorate programme on complex system modelling.

The agreement is effective for four years from the date it was signed.
