The project will be funded by a grant from the Dutch Facility for Infrastructure Development (ORIO). Through ORIO, the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs encourages public infrastructure development in developing countries.
The objective of the project is to overcome the severe water shortage in the rural areas of Gia Loc and Tu Ky Districts.
The new water supply system will be built in three phases and from the development to the operational phase the cost will be around Euro 2 million.
The first phase or the development phase will take about 18 months with 50 percent of the grant fund.
For the second and third phases, the Dutch grant will provide 35 percent of the fund money.
The project will greatly contribute toward improving the lives of local residents. Under the project, clean water will be accessible to 80 percent of the population in both the districts by 2015 and to 100 percent of the population by 2020.
The project will focus on low income communities that are in dire need of clean water for their daily use. The new water supply system will also support small to medium size business enterprises and units and also manufacturers located in industrial zones of both the districts.
