The short term IT training courses provided by vocational schools have been attracting a lot of students. IT relating careers are considered the “hottest jobs” nowadays, while 3-6 month training courses’ graduates can easily find good jobs and obtain high monthly income.
Phi Anh Tuan, Deputy Chair of the HCM City Informatics Association, said students put their faith in IT because of its involvement and impacts on all other aspects of the society’s life. He also said that network security and information safety would be in high demand in the time to come.
According to Nguyen Hoang Anh, President of iSPACE, an IT majoring vocational school, network security remains an unfamiliar career to Vietnamese, but it has caught the special attention from students, who have been told that this would be a lucrative career in the future.
In order to protect their database and fight against hackers, businesses nowadays have to make heavier investment in the information security solutions, which leads to the higher demand for qualified workforce for the field.
The HCM City Labor Force Forecast and Labor Market Information has predicted that the city would need 8000-10,000 IT workers a year in 2011-2015, especially the workers in information system and network security.
“We planned to recruit 70 programmers in 2011, but we found six only,” said Le Nguyen Ba Khang from Micro Game Service Company.
Tuan from the HCM City Informatics Association believes that software programming, especially the software products for mobile devices would be one of the hottest careers in the time to come.
According to Nguyen Hoang Anh, President of iSPACE, he has reassured his students that they would earn 60-80 million dong a year after they graduate the school’s training courses.
However, what makes IT firms worried is that the high number of IT students does not always mean the high number of qualified graduates.
Khang of Micro Game said he does not care about where candidates come from (universities, junior colleges or vocational schools), and that he would recruit anyone who can fulfill the company’s tests.
Network administrators have been playing an increasingly important role in enterprises’ operation. Anh said network administrators need to have deep knowledge about computing, be patient and good at foreign language skills. Besides, the teamwork skills and the capability of standing hard pressure would be the privileges of candidates in the eyes of employers.
A lot of students have been rushing to follow the training courses to become network administrators after they heard that a new worker can earn 200-300 dollars, or 6 million dong a month. Meanwhile, the workers with 2-3 year experience would receive 500-800 dollars.
Graphic design is also considered a hot career for now, because graphic design gets involved in many other business fields, from pack designing to event organization, from website preface designing to movies.
Foreseeing the bright prospect of the career, students now rush to vocational schools to register graphic design training courses. However, despite the high number of graduates every year, Le Vu Ha, Deputy Director of Vu Duc Design Company, still complained that it’s very difficult to find qualified workers now.
“They (new graduates) can only meet the requirements in terms of graphics, while they still cannot “design” in the true sense of the word. They still lack creativeness, a very important characteristic of the career,” he said.
