Ministry issues health food diet guidelines

The guidelines include 10 advises on following a proper diet and focuses on four groups of food that have starch, protein, fat, vitamins and minerals. People are advised to take more protein from animal and plants, and eat more shrimps, crabs, beans and sesame.
Using iodine salt to season food is important and eating fresh vegetables and fruits is a way to maintain health.
Physical exercise, drinking sufficient amounts of purified water in a day, not having soft beverages and not smoking will make a person remain healthy, say the guidelines.
Babies should be breast-fed in their first six months as well as be given dairy products suitable to their growth age.
The guidelines are so detailed that medical staff can use them for knowledge data on nutrition, to help patients.
The number of Vietnamese adults with high blood pressure has risen rapidly in recent decades and 25.1 percent of Vietnamese people over the age of 25 have high blood pressure.
The rate of hypertension in adults in Vietnam was 1.5 percent in 1960, 10.1 percent in 1970, and over 16 percent in 2000.
Consuming a salty diet rich in protein and fat but lacking in fiber, drinking beer, smoking and stress leads to a multitude of diseases.
