Representatives from the Ministry of Health, National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, Quy Hoa National Leprosy Dermatology Hospital in the central province of Binh Dinh, Pasteur Institute in Nha Trang, and World Health Organization, have arrived in the village to meet patients for further investigation as to the cause of the disease.
Earlier, many teams from medical departments had gone to the district to take water, skin and hair samples to find out cause of the disease. This time, the mission team focused on rice and procedures of stocking rice.
Dang Thi Phuong, head of the Preventive Medicine Department in Ba To District, said 11 people are infected with the disease and three under close observation in the district.
Although the numbers of ill people is not escalating like previous years, patients are not only suffering thickening of the skin (keratosis) on palms and soles, stiffness in limbs and ulcers on hands and feet but also on shin area.
