On February 25, The Ministry of Industry and Trade officially launched Earth Hour 2013 campaign to make a significant change in action of all classes in energy conservation and climate change fight through creative communication. This year’s campaign includes a wide range of activities such as launching a short film-making competition, collecting fingerprints as commitment to conserve energy and combat climate change, starting "Green movement” journey, cycling for Earth Hour. The light-out event for Earth Hour will take place from 8.30 pm to 9:30 pm on March 23.
EVN NPC and its subsidiaries have taken part in Earth Hour since 2009. In Earth Hour event on March 31, 2012, EVN NPC promised to support VND2.5 billion for efficient lighting in 250 classrooms in Son La, Dien Bien, Lai Chau, Ha Giang and Lao Cai. The work was eventually completed to celebrate new school-year 2012. Besides, the companies also sponsored the installation of solar water heaters, communicated energy conservation and advising how to use electricity efficiently for households.
According to EVN NPC’s Deputy General Manager, Nguyen Thanh Le, who was in the lead of EVN NPC cycling team, over the years, Earth Hour campaign has made a significant impression on Vietnamese people’s awareness of the causes and consequences of climate change, among which inefficient use of energy is a major factor. Therefore, EVN NPC is always in company with Earth Hour, becomes a pioneering advocate of all activities, determines to turn awareness into practical actions to save energy, protects living environment and builds a sustainable economy.
EVN NPC hopes the participation of the officials from both the company and electric industry as well as the public will contribute to the campaign’s success, the public’s awareness improvement of climate change and effective implementation of the national policy on energy efficiency.
