The survey was carried out by Bkav in April. According to the internet security company, the damages that computer users in Vietnam suffer were less extensive than in developed countries, but the losses are still really huge.
Statistics in Vietnam are calculated based on the incomes of computer users whose work is interrupted by troubles caused by viruses.
On average, every computer user incurs a loss of some VND1.35 million a year. With at least 5.9 million computers active nationwide as per the White Book of IT and Communications in 2012, the damages caused by computer viruses are up to VND8 trillion annually.
Bkav experts also provide information on local network security in the report. The threat of being infected is rising again as up to 93% of users admitted their USB drives had been infected with viruses at least once in the last 12 months, up 5 points against 2012.
Up to 2,638 new computer viruses were found in Vietnam last month. These viruses had attacked more than 4.23 million computers.
Some 425 websites of companies in Vietnam became the victims of hackers last month, with nine cases caused by local hackers and 416 others by foreign ones.
