The U.S. spends 19 million on dioxin cleanup in Vietnam

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has approved a new aid package of 344 million USD to Vietnam to implement three objectives until 2018. 19 million USD of the aid package is spent on dioxin cleanup project in Da Nang and Dong Nai.
According to the USAID’s 2014-18 Country Development Cooperation Strategy in Vietnam, the planned budget of 344 million USD fulfills three objectives concerning many fields within 5 years in Vietnam.
The first objective of the strategy is to enhance state management in order to facilitate sustainable and in-depth national development with a planned budget of 86 million USD within 5 years. Supporting activities will help increasing trade competitiveness, capacity and higher education quality.
The second objective is to increase capacity of health protection and welfare improvement with the planned budget of 239 million USD. There are some supporting activities relating to avian flu, HIV/AIDS, handicapped people, women empowerment, climate change resilience and disaster mitigation.
The third objective is to strengthen the Vietnam-US partnership by addressing the legacies including dioxin cleanup at Da Nang airport and environmental assessment of dioxin contamination at Bien Hoa airport with the planned budget of 19 million.
