Conservation of green ironwood trees

With the aim of conserving and improving of quality and quantity of green ironwood trees, People’s Committee of Thanh Hoa province approved the green ironwood conservation and development project at Ben En National Park with the total cost of 1.6 billion VND.
After 3 years of implementation, the project has identified the area of green ironwood trees at Ben En National Park and its characteristic of density. There are newly-planted 80 hectares of indigenous green ironwood trees with the density of 625 trees per hectare. All green ironwood trees are currently growing well.
Mr. Le Dinh Phuong, Deputy Director of Ben En National Park of Thanh Hoa province said “the project Conservation and development of green ironwood trees at Ben En National Park has played a role in protecting the distinctive ecosystem of Ben En National Park and restoring other fauna and flora species in rehabilitation area. The project of green ironwood conservation serves as scientific foundation for planning of other rare flora and fauna species, thus helping to raise public awareness of environmental protection and conservation of rare fauna and flora species. The success of ancient green ironwood conservation paves way for the proposal of honoring ancient ironwood tree as heritage tree which may contribute to the provincial ecotourism development and community development.
