Vietnam, RoK strengthen scientific and technological co-operation

Science and technology is the top national policy, the foundation and driving force of industrialisation and modernisation.
This policy was emphasised during the 7th Vietnam-Republic of Korea (RoK) Joint Committee on Scientific and Technological Co-operation that took place in Seoul, the RoK on June 12. RoK’s First Deputy Minister of Science, ICT and Future Planning, Lee Sang-mok and Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Science and Technology, Le Viet Thanh co-chaired the meeting.
The two sides discussed relevant contents including science and technology policies of the two nations, co-operation in the field since 2011, the ongoing implementation of the Vietnam – RoK Institute of Science and Technology (V-KIST) project, identifying priorities and specific proposals for further co-operation, and co-operation plans for the next meeting.
Following the success of the 6th meeting held in Hanoi on November, 2011, the two sides have organised co-operative activities in the field such as IT, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, machinery manufacturing, automobile engines, mechatronics, and network security. At this year’s event, affirming the important role of science and technology for socio-economic development, the two sides were keen on increasing development co-operation in the field.
They agreed to promote investment in collaborative research and development, develop priorities for collaborative research pathways, and enhance experience sharing, as well as introducing new technologies and promoting the efficient connection of scientific and technological communities of the two countries. The 8th session of the joint committee is scheduled to be held in Hanoi in 2016.
