Vietnam has not recorded any cases of the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome infection caused by the Corona virus, or MERS-CoV, said head of the Department of Preventive Medicine Tran Dac Phu at an online press brief on human diseases on June 23.
All cases of MERS-CoV have either occurred in the Middle East or have direct links to a primary case infected in the Middle East. Accordingly Vietnam has recognized the potential for MERS-CoV to spread further and cause more cases in the country via tourists from the Middle East region. Until now, the Ministry of Health has not reported any cases of MERS-CoV cases.
According to a report issued by the Health Ministry, the country has over 31,130 hand-foot-mouth cases including two deaths in the southern provinces of Long An and Ba Ria-Vung Tau.
42 cities and provinces reported 11,148 cases of dengue fever with seven deaths and 319 infected cases of encephalitis due to virus and four of them succumbing to the disease, the report said.
At the meeting, Health Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Tien asked the media to provide information of diseases frequently.
