Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai visited the Da Phuoc Solid Waste Treatment Complex in Ho Chi Minh City on June 21 and had a working session with its operator, Vietnam Waste Solutions (VWS).
The deputy PM highly valued the co-operation between VWS and Ho Chi Minh City in the Da Phuoc project to promote the modern waste treatment method and reduce environmental pollution.
He noted that VWS and the HCMC authorities should accelerate the completion of a power plant within the Da Phuoc complex, plant more green trees around landfills and focus on classifying waste by its source.
Concerning a project to build a solid waste treatment plant in Long An province, Deputy PM Hai asked the relevant agencies to approve its plan soon, so that VWS can proceed with the project.
According to VWS Deputy General Director, Huynh Thi Lan Phuong, the US$150 million Da Phuoc complex has the most advanced waste treatment technology in Vietnam. VWS has completed its first phase with a 30-hectare landfill that can handle 10,000 tonnes per day. The complex is currently treating 3,000 tonnes of waste per day from Ho Chi Minh City and 20 tonnes per day from Long An province.
