HCM City authorities have announced a list of polluting companies and ordered the perpetrators to clean up their act by next year.

The list, issued by the People's Committee last week, includes the Otorhinolaryngolagy Hospital, Go Sao Industrial and Trading Ltd.; A Chau Paper Co; Viet Thang Co,; Phong Phu JSC and Phong Phu Fashion Factory, Thang Loi Investment and Development JSC.; Samho Vietnam Co.; Viet Tuong Food Ltd.; the slaughter-house in District 12. Dong Loi Paper Co., Nam Viet JSC; Bahal Vina Ltd.; and Altamode Vietnam.

Though they all have wastewater treatment systems, inspections of their facilities found that either the systems were inoperative or their treatment of wastewater fell far short of standards.

The People's Committee also instructed the Department of Resources and Environment to throw the book at polluters who fail to achieve the quality standards.

In addition to the 13 polluting firms, the city authorities also have a list of 41 other polluters who have been ordered to fix the problem by December this year.

They include medical facilities like the HCM City Blood Transfusion and Haematology Hospital, Duc Khang Hospital, Cao Thang Hospital, and Thu Duc District Hospital.
