India has announced plans to build a farm produce solar power on the world's largest salt field in Rajasthan. Salt fields with an area of over 48 km2 were transformed into the location of the photovoltaic panels with a capacity of 4,000 MW is estimated each year. Meanwhile, demand for electricity used annually in India is 772 GW.
The first phase of the project investment amounted to $ 1.2 billion. Mr. Srivastava, Minister of New and Renewable Energy, said solar energy center will have a lifespan of 25 years. Each year, the center can help cut association of 4 tonnes of CO2.
Currently, 67% of India's energy is from coal-fired thermal power and coal mines of this country are in danger of depletion. To remedy this situation, it is best to move quickly to India to invest in renewable energy.
Project production of solar power on a large scale will help reduce the cost of renewable energy. At the same time, increasing the use of electricity in rural areas, is currently 880 kWh / person / year in 2011-2012.
However, the project still faces many of the opposing opinion. The reason is that many people are concerned this project will cause significant impacts to the lake Sambhar, 1 in 25 saline wetlands of international importance. Accordingly, this project could affect the lives of people in the neighborhood and affect the habitat of species of flamingos. Some energy consultants said that the project will likely have to miniature size to avoid affecting the Sambhar lake.
According to experts, India is able to produce about 5 trillion kWh of solar power, however in reality it has just over 2 thousand MW grid connected solar power. In the coming months, the Government of India will deploy some additional solar projects in states like Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir. The country has set out plans to produce about 20 GW of solar power by 2022.
