Recently, an article in the Los Angeles Times of the United States have shown that the receiver signal cable and satellite TV is the type of device consumes more power second only after conditioning.
Currently in the United States with approximately 224 million receivers in use and they consume energy equivalent of four nuclear power plants operating at capacity 24 hours a day.
On average, a cable receiver consumes 35W of electricity cost per month for up to 8 USD (about 160 thousand). They are such as these "vampires" are quietly hanging in the grid of your family.
It is noteworthy that most consumers do not know the receivers are consuming how much energy each month. Andrew McAllister, a member of the California Energy Commission, said: "Consumers have no information and no control devices are used".
Last year, 11 companies and satellite television in the United States have signed an agreement to voluntarily increase the reduced power consumption of the receiver from 10% to 45% by 2017, however, this agreement does not require companies reduce consumption to a minimum and there is no penalty for violators.
Many users are advised to switch to internet TV programs with only 2W power consumption every month.
