Vietnam to launch free vaccination campaign

Vietnam will launch biggest free-of-charge vaccination campaign nationwide for children in the ages of one to fourteen from September, said Dr. Tran Dac Phu, head of the Ministry of Health's Preventive Medicine Department.

Children from one to fourteen ages who have just received one vaccine shot of measles, rubella will be injected gratis. The campaign will be implemented in 63 provinces with around 23 million children.

The campaign will include two phases. In the first phase, it will take place in September and October for children from one to five years old.

The second phase in November and December will provide free vaccine shots to children in six to ten ages.

In the third phase in January and February, medical workers will administer injections to children from eleven to fourteen years old.

Parents should take their children to local medical clinics or schools for vaccination.

The US$36 million vaccine is aided by Global Alliance for Vaccination and Immunization (GAVI) and UNICEF.
