Eggshell membrane is an available source of raw materials in nature that there is almost no value in use. The eggshell membrane also acts as a protective layer to prevent the intrusion of bacteria and the small size physical into the embryo. On the other hand, in the remote areas, the flood disaster areas, clean water source (basically without bacteria) is very difficult to achieve where the equipment and manmade membrane cost is not cheap.

 Therefore, the researchers postulate the ability of microfiltration eggshell membranes. With the highlighted features of this membrane, especially the ability to filter bacteria (part of microfiltration), eggshell membranes have completely potential applications as a microfiltration membrane used in low cost mobile water purification devices, meet the basic needs of water filters for citizen and help preventing diseases caused by harmful bacteria in the water.

This study has won the fourth Intel Science and Technology International contests 2013 ( ISEF) .
