The undersea international cable has a new break located 68 km from the Hong Kong mainland station, and repairs to restore internet connections will take longer than previously predicted, according to the operating unit of AAG (Asia Pacific Gateway).

AAG said welding of the first breaking point, 64km from the landing station in Hong Kong, will be finalized at 10am on September 28 and completed the next day.

At the second break recently discovered, the first welding is expected to be completed at 8pm on October 1. By 7am on October 10, the break will be repaired and the transmission line will be restored.

By 10 am on October 3, the cable will be buried and repairs completed by noon on October 5, two days later than previously scheduled.

On September 15, the AAG cable broke at a site 64 km from Hong Kong. This incident affected Internet services in Vietnam, especially connections to other countries.

The AAG is a 20,000-kilometre long submarine communications cable system connecting Southeast Asia with the US mainland, across the Pacific Ocean via Guam and Hawaii.

With a total investment of approximately $560 million, AAG has a length of nearly 20,000 km, starting from Malaysia (TM) and ending in the US (AT & T Telecom Company).

The segment to Vietnam is 314 km long and lands at Vung Tau.  There are four participants in the system, including FPT Telecom, VNPT, Viettel and SPT.
